What is a Gas Water Heater

Residential gas water heater replacement

A gas water heater is an appliance that utilizes gas or propane to heat water. Gas water heaters can be used for both residential and commercial purposes. The water is stored in a tank, typically a metal tank with a glass liner. The temperature of the water can be set by thermostats integrated into the appliances gas valve. When hot water is needed, it is drawn from the top of the tank and replenished with cold water to the bottom by means of a diptube. The cold water is then heated by a gas-fired burner located at the base of the tank. Gas water heaters are typically more expensive to install than electric water heaters but may have lower operating costs due to the cost of electricity.

  • Conventional Vent
